OWN: Oprah is the Brand.

Oprah is the brand. As OWN, Oprah’s cable network struggles with audiences of 100,000 – 200,000 viewers, we wonder, will she host her own show on her OWN network to boost viewership?

Oprah has the Midas touch – and what she touches does turn to gold – but always with Oprah. She hosted all episodes of her eponymous network talk show (until her final on May 25th this year) and she’s on every cover of O magazine.

OWN without Oprah is like U2 without Bono.

Now that Oprah has her network obligation behind her, I think she will re-emerge with a show on her cable network. I also think she’ll try to bring back some of the hugely popular brands she launched, like Rachel Ray or Dr. Phil once they are free from their contracts.

OWN’s current situation is an important reminder of the power of personal branding and the opportunity each of us has to build demand for who we are and what we offer.
