William’s Words By William Arruda
A note from the Founder of Reach Personal Branding.

Gratitude

The topic of gratitude comes up a lot in the weeks leading up to Thanksgiving. But it’s May. So why am I bringing it up now? Well, the act of being grateful is a year-long and a life-long activity. It shouldn’t be reserved for holidays!

Being grateful and acknowledging others for their good deeds feels good – and it has tremendous health benefits too (detailed in this NYTimes article).

I’m a naturally thankful person, I think, and make it a priority to acknowledge the thoughtful acts of others. The recent launch of Ditch. Dare. Do! gave me an opportunity to experience kindness by the truckload. So I’d like to use this installment of William’s Words to express gratitude for the tremendous support and generosity that I experienced. I am grateful for:

  • Deb Dib for being a witty and wise coauthor who is an absolute delight. She tells me she is grateful to all these people too!
  • The amazing Dick Bolles for writing the brilliant foreword for the book. He’s an inspiration to so many people!
  • Team 3D – the Reach-certified Strategists who are committed to the 3D philosophy and the book’s success.
  • Bestselling authors and sages Dan Pink, Marshall Goldsmith, Martin Yate and Gretchen Rubin for their endorsements and reviews of the manuscript.
  • The Reach team – especially Tara Kachaturoff and Deborah Reast who managed every single step of the long – and sometimes arduous -process.
  • The dozens of people who read the book as soon as it was available and provided our first reviews at Amazon.com.
  • The over 30 people who contributed stories and quotes.
  • Our launch partners who gave away valuable gifts on launch day.
  • The countless others who provided content, creativity, support, advice, resources, wisdom, feedback, promotion…
  • YOU, the reader of YOUnique who shared your encouragement and ideas as we updated you with the progress of the book.

THANK YOU! Let me close this installment of William’s Words with a Malayan proverb that sums up my feelings: “One can pay back the loan of gold, but one lies forever in debt to those who are kind.”

Ditch. Dare. Do! for YOU: How often do you step outside your comfort zone?

Thursday, May 9th, 2013

William ArrudaDitch. Dare. Do! for YOU
By William Arruda

The 3D adventure where fearless early adopters, career-minded people, and enlightened companies join the 3D personal branding revolution!

Today, we dare!

How often do you step outside your comfort zone?

Do you ever regret not having done something because fear stopped you in your tracks? Do you mentally inflate the potential negative consequences of pursuing your goals to prevent you from taking necessary risks?

If you’re a bit risk averse, you’re in good company. Most of us spend a lot of time inside our comfort boundaries. Fear keeps us there.

Author Neil Gaiman wrote “If you dare nothing, then when the day is over, nothing is all you will have gained.” Deb Dib and I agree. That’s why we dare you to take risks that will move your brand forward in Ditch. Dare. Do!

One element of the branding process that often feels risky is getting feedback – anonymous, candid feedback. Yet knowing what people think about you is critical to successful personal branding. Many of us let fear impede obtaining the feedback we need. So today, I dare you to get this essential external feedback.

We just launched the latest version of 360Reach – the personal branding survey which allows you to get honest feedback about your brand. Watch this video to learn about it:

I want you to use it to get the brand feedback you need. 15-day passwords to the basic version are free! And if you’re one of the first 25 people to send a request, we’ll send you a premium password for 45-days access to this incredible tool. Just send me, williamarruda at reachcc dot com, an email with ‘I DARE’ in the subject and we’ll send you a password. No need to put anything in the body of the email.

I close with a quote from Albert Einstein “A ship is always safe at the shore – but that’s not what it is built for.”

Here’s to being daring!

Sounds like a simple question but can you answer it in the context of your life? Where are you taking your career? Your family? Your community? What do you want to accomplish in every facet of your life?

Realizing that you are unhappy with your job, relationships or community is not enough to cultivate change. You must take action and invest buckets of sweat equity. If you do, amazing things will happen.

Do you want to leap tall buildings with a single bound, get to the top, stay at the top, be happier at work than you imagined, and contribute something to your world? You can do it! And you don’t need the super powers of an action hero. You need only a few minutes a day to ditch, dare, and do!

How great would it feel to throw caution to the winds and be daringly you—confident and powerful, innovative and successful, courageous and regret-free? How great would it feel to build your career, not by job-search, but by irresistible attraction—by drawing best-fit opportunities to you, like moths to a flame?

ddd-cover-finalFind out April 23, with the long-awaited release of Ditch. Dare. Do! 3D Personal Branding for Executives: 66 Ways to Become Influential, Indispensable, and Incredibly Happy at Work (by us—William Arruda and Deb Dib).

Ditch. Dare. Do! is executive branding revolutionized for the rapidly evolving twenty-first century workplace, the first career and corporate success plan created specifically for the combined challenges of executives, their teams, their companies, and their time. Definitive and irreverent, both quick-start guide and deep-dive instruction manual, it’s deliberately bold and brief—filled with fast, fun, furious branding—designed to work with today’s distractions and 24/7 schedules.

Dislodging long-held assumptions and habits, we challenge readers with a “ditch” (a mindset that must be shattered), a “dare” (a challenge to up your game), or a “do” (a critical action that must be taken to ensure success). A series of 66 powerful two-page tips (each followed by a ditch, dare, or do) cover all aspects of twenty-first century executive branding. There’s even a chapter with a nine-minute-a-day brand plan! (Really!)

Whether you’re an executive, entrepreneur, professional, or young rising star, when you ditch, dare, and do, you’ll stand out unmistakably and effortlessly. You’ll be known (and valued) for who you are, what you do, and what happens when you do it. And if that’s not enough, here are 10 more results you can experience when you have the courage to ditch, dare, and do! You will:

  1. Be SO CLEAR on who you are and what you stand for that even those who disagree with you will respect you.
  2. Find yourself working with people (above and below) who are aligned to your values and outcomes.
  3. Become the go-to person, expert, solution-provider, fixer—you name it.

  5. Draw people to you because they feel good with you and trust your transparency.
  6. Make your own luck, attracting positions that are the clear choice for your right next career step.
  7. Become that person everyone looks to for de-facto leadership.
  8. Gain valuable visibility inside, and outside of your organization.
  9. Speak truth to authority, without fear of dire consequences.

William’s Words: Join our Reach Community

Thursday, March 21st, 2013
William ArrudaWilliam’s Words
By William Arruda

A note from the Founder of Reach Personal Branding.
Join our Reach CommunityIt feels great to be a part of a community. We achieve so much more when we’re connected to others.

One of the communities to which I feel most connected is the amazing group of 360Reach Analysts and Reach–certified Personal Branding Strategists. Although the primary reason I started the certification programs over a decade ago was to amplify the visibility and availability of personal branding globally; it’s the opportunity to interact with others who share the Reach personal branding methodology that really revs me up.

When I left my job at IBM – and team of 42 people – to start Reach, I felt lonely. In my IBM role, I was rarely alone. Post-IBM, I felt like I had been placed in solitary confinement. Months of being self-employed (emphasis on SELF), left me longing for a connection to others and for the opportunity to collaborate (collaboration is one of my top five values). So, the Reach certification programs were born.

Today, there are hundreds of 360Reach Analysts and Personal Branding Strategists; they hail from 35 countries around the globe. They’re executive and career coaches, HR leaders, recruiters and consultants. And they provide me, the rest of the Reach team and each other with endless ideas and inspiration – and a tremendous sense of community.

Our certification training consistently receives high marks in participant evaluations; and we’re making it even better! We’re adding some new content, innovative learning techniques and an extra dose of fun!

FREE Information Sessions on 4/26!

You can learn more about our certification programs and the outstanding community we’re lucky to be a part of. Join us for a free personal branding certification information session on April 26th. You will have two chances to learn about our programs and ask questions – one at 9:00am EDT and another at 4:00pm EDT. I’ll be there, along with Deb Dib, my co-author for Ditch. Dare. Do! To sign up for these sessions visit this link to sign up now!

Everyone who participates will also receive a special discount coupon for either 360Reach or Personal Branding Strategist Certification programs. Our next Certified Personal Branding Strategist program begins on May 2 and 360Reach Certification is on May 16.

It is going to be a fun, highly interactive session. So join us…and bring a member of your community too. On a final note, if you are ready to secure your space in the May Personal Branding Strategist Certification program now, register before April 18th for our early bird discount of $500! More information can be found here and you can also set up an appointment to talk with Kirsten Vernon, our instructor.
