By Kirsten Vernon (formerly Dixson)

The June 2013 Reach Personal Branding Certification and 360Reach Analyst Certification Programs will be the very last courses I teach for Reach after six consecutive years. If you’ve been considering joining these programs, I’d love to personally train you. Learn more about the upcoming schedule and make an appointment to speak with me about these always hot summer programs at www.reachtrainingprograms.com.

It’s been my great pleasure to train hundreds of career and business coaches, talent managers, recruiters, HR professionals, resume writers, and image consultants to use the Reach methodology with their clients and gain clarity on their own brands in the process. What an honor to be a catalyst for touching the careers of thousands of professionals!

I have loved serving as Reach’s Certification Programs Facilitator for two main reasons:

  1. After being the first person to ever register for the Reach Personal Branding Certification in 2004 and discovering how much this process really works, I grew my own successful personal branding practice and enjoy sharing best practices so program graduates may rebrand or launch their own initiatives in order to get a return on their investment.
  2. Having been a very active part of the Reach Community’s growth from its inception, it has been amazing to witness, and participate in, all of the collaboration and support that occurs among Reach Strategists everyday. I’ve especially been gratified to bring on board the Strategists around the world who have also been the first in their countries to become certified—often accommodating widespread time zones and those taking the program in English as a second language. In recent programs, we’ve added several new countries for Reach, including the Philippines, Denmark, Poland, Greece, and Cayman Islands. Reach has truly cemented the position as the global personal branding leader with Strategists in 40+ countries.

Why am I leaving then? All good things must come to an end, and I’m looking forward to being able to give 100% of my business focus to my own brand building efforts and launching some new offerings.

Of course, as William Arruda’s coauthor of Career Distinction: Stand Out By Building Your Brand who, as he says, knows the Reach branding process better than anyone next to him, I will continue to remain engaged in the Reach community.

Kirsten Vernon is the Personal Branding and Online Identity expert for positive influencers who want to profit from their ideas and coauthor of Career Distinction: Stand Out by Building Your Brand (Wiley) and the upcoming Branded Bio: How to Take Your Bio from Bland to Brand. As Reach’s Programs Facilitator, Kirsten trained more personal branding strategists than anyone worldwide.

William’s Words: Join our Reach Community

William ArrudaWilliam’s Words
By William Arruda

A note from the Founder of Reach Personal Branding.
Join our Reach CommunityIt feels great to be a part of a community. We achieve so much more when we’re connected to others.

One of the communities to which I feel most connected is the amazing group of 360Reach Analysts and Reach–certified Personal Branding Strategists. Although the primary reason I started the certification programs over a decade ago was to amplify the visibility and availability of personal branding globally; it’s the opportunity to interact with others who share the Reach personal branding methodology that really revs me up.

When I left my job at IBM – and team of 42 people – to start Reach, I felt lonely. In my IBM role, I was rarely alone. Post-IBM, I felt like I had been placed in solitary confinement. Months of being self-employed (emphasis on SELF), left me longing for a connection to others and for the opportunity to collaborate (collaboration is one of my top five values). So, the Reach certification programs were born.

Today, there are hundreds of 360Reach Analysts and Personal Branding Strategists; they hail from 35 countries around the globe. They’re executive and career coaches, HR leaders, recruiters and consultants. And they provide me, the rest of the Reach team and each other with endless ideas and inspiration – and a tremendous sense of community.

Our certification training consistently receives high marks in participant evaluations; and we’re making it even better! We’re adding some new content, innovative learning techniques and an extra dose of fun!

FREE Information Sessions on 4/26!

You can learn more about our certification programs and the outstanding community we’re lucky to be a part of. Join us for a free personal branding certification information session on April 26th. You will have two chances to learn about our programs and ask questions – one at 9:00am EDT and another at 4:00pm EDT. I’ll be there, along with Deb Dib, my co-author for Ditch. Dare. Do! To sign up for these sessions visit this link to sign up now!

Everyone who participates will also receive a special discount coupon for either 360Reach or Personal Branding Strategist Certification programs. Our next Certified Personal Branding Strategist program begins on May 2 and 360Reach Certification is on May 16.

It is going to be a fun, highly interactive session. So join us…and bring a member of your community too. On a final note, if you are ready to secure your space in the May Personal Branding Strategist Certification program now, register before April 18th for our early bird discount of $500! More information can be found here and you can also set up an appointment to talk with Kirsten Vernon, our instructor.

Start 2013 Off with Certification in Personal Branding

Start 2013 Off with Certification in Personal Branding
By Kirsten Vernon

1. What’s the difference between the 360Reach Certification course and the course to become a Certified Personal Brand Strategist (CPBS)?

360Reach Certification is the program that certifies you to use the 360Reach survey tool with your clients, the world’s leading assessment for reputation management. You’ll learn how to help your clients interpret their 360Reach feedback and take action steps to positively affect the way they are known going forward. Because our personal brands, although authentic to who we truly are, are held in the hearts and minds of others, 360Reach is an effective method of collecting external feedback. It’s a critical piece of the greater personal branding process, but is also a valuable stand alone tool and a way to spark further opportunities for personal development. You can start with this program and later apply your investment when you decide to upgrade to Reach’s full personal branding training. This program is approved by the ICF for 11 CCEUs.

It includes self-paced learning accessible online in the 360Reach Learning Environment and a live 90-minute Webinar. The Reach Personal Branding Certification Program provides comprehensive training in the only personal branding methodology that has been proven with hundreds of thousands of professionals since 2001. You’ll become a Reach-Certified Personal Branding Strategist and also become certified to use the 360Reach Assessment. You’ll learn how to discover, communicate, align, and manage your client’s brands. And, you will also get help with applying the Reach methodology to your own personal brand during the program. This 9 tele-class program is approved by the ICF for 50 CCEUs.

2. For whom are these courses best suited? What types of people enroll in the courses?

Because there are myriad ways to apply this learning, the participants in these programs are diverse. What they all have in common is their recognition of personal branding as an innovative, high-impact way to manage career and business success and a passion for helping people realize their full potential. In fact, The Wall Street Journal recently cited Personal Branding as the #2 “must have” job skill for 2013. (http://on.wsj.com/UHH9DG) Many participants also have a marketing background or an interest in marketing, but this is not a requirement.

The September 2012 CPBS Program that just wrapped up is a perfect example of the typical make-up of the participants in Reach’s programs. Reach has certified Strategists in 35+ countries, and this group had participants from Japan, Portugal, Turkey, Luxembourg, France, and the United States. It included career coaches, resume writers, image consultants, corporate talent managers, trainers, entrepreneur coaches, and leadership consultants. Here’s what one participant in the September 2012 group had to say:

For me, the Personal Branding Strategist Certification facilitated by Kirsten Vernon was a remarkable experience and a value-add to my work with clients. Kirsten strikes the right balance between delivering input on personal branding concepts and sharing her practical insights in dealing with her own clients. It is a must for anyone in the career management field who desires to establish a valued brand and help clients do the same. If you are ready to have a business or career growth spurt, I strongly recommend this certification. – Syndee Feuer, CPRW, CPCC, M.Ed, Career Tactics, LLC

3. Can I teach this material to groups once I’m certified?

The 360Reach Analyst Certification and the Reach Personal Branding Certification provide a license to use these tools and process with individuals. Because workshops and events are highly visible activities for the Reach brand, there is separate advanced training (Keynote and Masters Certification) for delivering personal branding services to groups. Those programs include a complete set of slides, speaker notes, and handouts for events and workshops.

4. Where can I get more information?

We have additional information about the programs at http://www.reachtrainingprograms.com. Also, our book, Career Distinction: Stand Out by Building Your Brand explains the methodology that William Arruda pioneered. Often people who register to become certified are long-time fans of the book.

5. May I speak with you directly about either of these programs?

If you would like to speak with me about whether these programs are right for you or have any questions before registering, please contact me at kirsten at kirstendixson dot com and we’ll set up a time to speak.

We do have an early-bird special where you can save $500 off the price of the CPBS course that begins January 15th. Learn more at www.reachtrainingprograms.com

Kirsten Vernon (formerly Dixson) is William Arruda’s coauthor of Career Distinction: Stand Out by Building Your Brand (Wiley) and the instructor for Reach’s Certification Programs. She’s trained more Personal Branding Strategists than any other person in the world, and she’d love to have the opportunity to work with you.

Elevate Yourself:

Stop Retreating and Start Ascending!

According to Forbes magazine, only 33 of the Fortune 1,000 companies are headed by women. Why might this be?

Whether you believe a glass ceiling exists in the workplace or not, we contend that personal branding could help women propel themselves in their career, giving them the best opportunity to reach the highest level in any company.

But breaking through glass is dangerous business! Ora Shtull, one of New York’s leading Executive Coaches, believes there’s a better way for a smart and savvy woman to get where she wants to go. As she shares in her book THE GLASS ELEVATOR, every woman can achieve her vision of success by powering up the 9 must-have skills of Leadership Presence and elevating herself.

We are honored to have Ora Shtull, has our distinguished guest for the September 27, 2012 Reach Personal Branding Interview at noon EST. Ora will discuss her book, The Glass Elevator – A Guide to Leadership Presence for Women on the Rise, in an interactive, one-hour conversation with William Arruda, founder of Reach Personal Branding. If you’re a woman on the rise (or raring to become one), you don’t want to miss this interview.

In this interview, which will be recorded, you will learn how to:

  • Communicate with oomph. If you’re not speaking up at the meeting table, master the surprisingly simple practice of asking strategic questions.
  • Strut your stuff. Power up your posture, position, and projection.
  • Listen to learn. Learn the three ways to talk while you listen (to make listening a whole lot easier).
  • Buddy up with your boss. Stop resenting and start maximizing your most valuable relationship in the workplace.
  • Tango with your team. Learn the secret to transforming your direct reports into the perfect partners.
  • Grow your tribe. Expand your network by doing the easy stuff – like being likable, giving, and playing.
  • Increase your influence. Ask for what you want in a way that promises you’ll get exactly what you want.
  • Find the ME in team. If you’re bad at self-promotion, kick in some personal branding techniques that authentically share what makes you unique.
  • Be happy. Adopt happiness principles that fuel professional success.

How to Create Your Personal Leadership Philosophy on One Piece of Paper

Thursday, August 23, 2012

Wheaties. Nike. Dell.

All of these brands are leaders in their respective industries and all have a common denominator – a winning slogan. In fact, I bet you could finish each of these sentences:

  • Wheaties – “Breakfast of ______.”
  • Nike – “Just __ __.”
  • Dell – “Easy as _____.”

A remarkable slogan contains two key elements – authenticity and distinctiveness. They cultivate trust while establishing exclusivity. These pivotal elements are also found in proven leadership philosophies from around the world. Developing a leadership philosophy and effectively communicating that philosophy is essential to fulfilling your potential as a leader.

To many, leadership seems complicated. With competing philosophies and methods, as well as a rapidly changing workplace, is it even possible to clearly, succinctly, and simply convey your personal approach to leading others? The answer is YES! And we know just the guy to introduce you to.

Distinguished author Mike Figliuolo, is our guest expert for the August 23, 2012 Reach Personal Branding Interview at noon EST. Mike will discuss his book, One Piece of Paper – The Simple Approach to Powerful Leadership, in an interactive, one-hour conversation with William Arruda, founder of Reach Personal Branding. One Piece of Paper provides an authentic, accessible model for you to clearly convey your leadership philosophy to others. Mike guides you through a simple approach for creating, articulating, and living your personal leadership philosophy — one that can be shared on a single piece of paper.

In this interview, which will be recorded, you will learn:

  • What a leadership philosophy is and why it’s important
  • What the four aspects of leadership are
  • How to make your leadership philosophy genuine and authentic
  • How you can use your leadership philosophy to build trust with your team

May 2012 Reach Personal Branding Teleseminar

Thursday, May 24th, 2012

This interview happened on May 24, 2012 at 12noon ET. Will have a link to the recording in a few days. Stay tuned on Twitter to hear when it’s available!

Have a Nice Conflict

Wouldn’t it be nice to go through life without any conflicts? Primarily, conflicts stem from opposing values, expectations and life experiences. Considering no two people could possibly have the exact same life experiences, conflict is inevitable. So the question becomes, how do you deal with conflict when it arises.

To help us deal with conflict, psychologist, clinical therapist, and educator Dr. Elias H. Porter established the Relationship Awareness Theory. The theory is founded on four premises: 1. Behavior is driven by motivation, 2. Motivation changes in conflict, 3. Personal weaknesses are overdone strengths, and 4. Clarity and face validity enhance self-discovery. This theory laid the foundation to Tim Scudder’s training program and book called, Have a Nice Conflict.

Distinguished author Tim Scudder, is our guest expert for the May 24, 2012 Reach Personal Branding Interview at noon EST. Tim will discuss his book, Have a Nice Conflict, in an interactive, one-hour conversation with William Arruda, founder of Reach Personal Branding.

In this interview, which will be recorded, you will learn:

  • How to anticipate conflict before it happens, and prevent much of it from happening
  • How to use conflict as an opportunity to learn
  • How to identify three different reactions to conflict and how to work more effectively with them
  • Why a disagreement is not necessarily a conflict – and what to do about it
  • How what you do in conflict may influence the way people define you

BIO: Tim Scudder

Tim ScudderTim Scudder, CPA is the CEO of Personal Strengths USA and the author of “Have a Nice Conflict – how to find success and satisfaction in the most unlikely places” and a related training program. He is a founding director of the Center for the Development of the Leaders We Need at the California School of Professional Psychology. In addition to being an author and speaker, he works with some of the worlds largest organizations to improve the quality of leadership and increase people’s effectiveness and managing conflict and building relationships.
