Lifestyle Design

Many of you have probably read The 4-Hour Workweek by Tim Ferriss or at least heard of it. I’m currently reading it with my book club and there are lots of great time saving nuggets in it. Some of you may be familiar with Chris Brogan’s Escape Velocity concept. We can’t forget good ol’ Gary Vaynerchuk who puts his money where his mouth is and has created a mini empire between his Wine Library and multi-book publishing deal – in fact he just released his latest called The Thank You Economy but it was his first book, Crush It, that put him in a similar category with the other two. All three gentlemen focused on something called lifestyle design.

Doesn’t that sound lovely? Designing your own lifestyle? As someone who has designed my own lifestyle and help others design theirs I wanted to tell you that it’s truly possible. I still need to master many of the 4-Hour Workweek skills especially hiring VA’s!

Where does one start to design their lifestyle? First and foremost you have to make the time to focus on yourself and create the vision of your life. It’s not easy to make the time. It’s not easy to figure out your vision. You have to dig deep, listen to your self-talk, think about what you want, what are your priorities what makes you happy? The questions are endless and sometimes you don’t have the answers but the results are well worth it.

You can hire a coach to help you gain clarity. They also help define and ask all the right questions. Let’s face it, it’s much easier to converse with another individual than to talk to yourself that much!

So I encourage you to start designing your own lifestyle. While you’re figuring out you’ll also get clear on who you are, which will also lead to defining and clarifying your personal brand.

Don’t wait to get started – there are lots of certified coaches who are also certified in personal branding. If you want to go at it solo start with the above books and if you want more recommendations send me a tweet @RachelGogos.

Happy designing!
